Where should smart access respond?
The Japanese C-HR Hybrid manual for vehicles built from December 2016 to April 2018 describes detection near the front door handles and tailgate switch. A report that a rear handle does not detect the key therefore needs clarification of the system and particular handle first.
Check the access points fitted to your C-HR in its appropriate manual. Say which door you tried and whether the remote button works. The appearance of the key does not determine vehicle equipment.
Extended parking and battery-saving modes
For that Japanese production period, the manual explains that energy saving can delay unlocking after non-use, and that the key’s battery-saving mode disables Smart Entry & Start. Check these possibilities in the correct manual before assuming the key needs replacement.
Mention whether the issue followed a holiday or use of a stored spare. Ask whether the enquiry will include the existing key’s settings and response. Instructions for another C-HR do not replace the manual for your year and system.
Weak battery or failed detection?
The same manual specifies CR2032 for the electronic key described. Reduced range and failed remote or smart-access operation are listed as possible depletion symptoms. Identify your actual key before choosing a battery; the specification does not cover every C-HR generation.
Report whether starting works, whether the other key works and whether the issue began after battery replacement. Record the exact wording of any system fault message. A new battery neither supplies a spare nor proves that every detection problem has been resolved.
A wet handle or a wet key?
The Japanese manual for that generation notes that a large amount of water on a handle can trigger locking or unlocking when the key is in detection range. Behaviour during washing should be described separately from a remote that fell into water.
Describe when it began and what still works. Keep dropped or wet keys and parts for inspection. For shell damage, ask about repair versus replacement.
A wet car key: what to describe and checkA C-HR spare or no available key
With a working key, specify the backup functions: buttons, starting and smart access where fitted. Ask about the mechanical blade and testing the previous key. Without a working key, state whether the car is locked and enquire about replacement and the lost key’s authorisation.
