Describe the sequence of actions
Record whether the first press unlocks the driver’s door, whether another press unlocks the remaining doors and whether this happens every time. One particular door failing to respond while the others unlock is a different pattern from consistent selective unlocking.
Also distinguish releasing the lock from pulling the handle. Say whether the door will not open from outside, from inside or from either side. Do not force the handle to test whether the key is working.
Example: two stages in the Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2025
The US Corolla Hybrid 2025 manual describes the unlock button releasing the driver’s door first. A second press within three seconds releases the remaining doors. For vehicles with the smart system, it also distinguishes the driver’s handle from the passenger’s handle and describes an option to change the unlocking setting.
If this sequence matches your vehicle, the result may be normal. Check the manual for your local version before changing a setting: the number of presses and timing in this example are not instructions for every Toyota model.
Example: unlocking from a Volvo door handle
The Canadian XC60 Twin Engine 2018 manual describes a menu choice between All Doors and Single Door for vehicles with keyless entry. The second option releases the door selected for the action, so using one handle is not necessarily intended to unlock the entire vehicle.
Check the selected option without assuming that handle settings and remote-button settings are identical. If the behavior changed after a profile or setting was changed, include that detail when reporting the issue.
A mechanical blade is a separate case
The Renault Arkana English manual for 19 November 2025 to 5 June 2026 describes the key built into the card as a way to unlock the driver’s door when the card is not working. Unlocking only that door mechanically does not prove a fault in the remote buttons.
If you used the blade because the card did not respond, report that reason and the buttons’ behavior separately. Mechanical unlocking does not establish which doors the remote should release. Check the instructions for the specific vehicle.
When does the investigation focus on the door?
After checking the correct sequence and setting, record whether the same door remains locked with every approved unlocking method. Comparing another key or the vehicle’s normal unlock switch provides useful information, but does not diagnose the door mechanism.
Send Key Replacement the model, year, unlocking method and a description of the unresponsive door. We will check whether the issue is suitable for a key inspection or requires work on the door system.
| Result | What to report |
|---|---|
| All doors unlock at the second stage | The sequence and setting checked in the manual |
| One door also fails to respond to another key | Which door, and what happens with the unlock switch |
| Only the mechanical blade unlocked the driver’s door | Whether the card or remote buttons still respond |
