Start with the ignition type and the existing key’s functions. With push-button starting, say whether you unlock using a remote button or proximity recognition. Do not assume every Hyundai from the same year uses the same key.
Send a key photo with the vehicle details. For a folding key, mention whether the blade and folding mechanism are intact.
Spare smart keys and vehicle compatibilityWhat can a second key tell you?
If a spare is available, say whether it performs the same functions successfully. One working key provides different information from two keys that both receive no response. Comparing them helps describe the fault, but is not a complete vehicle diagnosis.
Report dashboard messages and whether the problem is constant or occurs in one place. Hyundai’s Smart Key manual also discusses interference and the vehicle battery; an unresponsive car does not always mean the remote battery is weak.
A Hyundai key exposed to water or heat
Hyundai’s manual warns about damage from water, moisture and high heat. Say if the fault began after washing or getting wet, before replacing parts. Avoid heating the key or opening components without knowing the relevant instructions.
A dry exterior does not establish that the electronics are sound. Keep any detached parts and explain which functions still work, if you already know.
What to report about a wet or washed keyA mechanical backup is different from a starting key
The Smart Key manual reviewed also describes a mechanical key for vehicle access. Its role and use depend on the model. Opening a door with a blade does not establish that the car will recognize the key for starting.
If you previously had only a blade made, mention that. When the car will not start, describe its response instead of deciding in advance that it needs “reprogramming.”
Spare keys, lost keys and final checks
An available working key, a single faulty key and the loss of every key are three different situations. Ask what your case requires and whether the quote covers parts, remote functions, starting recognition and testing with the vehicle.
The linked Hyundai manual covers a particular version, not every Hyundai. Use your own vehicle manual for operating and backup instructions, and send the vehicle details to check the service options.
