Say whether the existing key has a folding blade and whether you turn it or press a start button. Identify a blade mechanism problem, remote button problem or starting recognition issue. These are separate functions within one casing.
Mention a privately imported car or a previously replaced key if relevant. The vehicle version and intended market can matter when checking a suitable part.
A new key, used key or empty casing?
An online Volkswagen key listing may describe different products. Check whether it includes electronics, a blade and remote functions, and whether it is new or used. A casing price is not the price of a key ready to use.
Ask whether the part can be matched to your car before buying. If already purchased, send a photo and available part details; use of every externally supplied key cannot be guaranteed.
Online keys: checks before purchase and programmingWhy find the correct vehicle manual?
Volkswagen’s official site provides a route to manuals by model year and, for certain newer vehicles, by VIN. This emphasizes selecting instructions for the actual car rather than a similar-looking remote.
Use the manual for battery instructions, blade use and access when the remote fails. The linked source is for the US market; check the manual and version appropriate to your car.
A cut key is not necessarily a key that starts the car
A blade that fits the lock is only part of a system with electronic recognition. Say explicitly if the key opens the door but cannot start the car. A key that starts but has nonworking buttons needs a different inquiry.
For duplication or replacement, define all required functions and vehicle checks. The word “programming” alone does not define the scope of the work.
Cutting, transponder and remote: defining the workHandover and testing both keys
At completion, test the new and previous keys against the agreed functions. If a key was lost, separately ask what changed about its authorizations and what happens if it is found. Store the spare separately.
Send the model, year, photo and request to Key Replacement. The part type, compatibility and possibility of work at your location are confirmed before service is scheduled.
